Born on the coast of Southern Italy, Gianni Versace learned the art of fashion design from his dressmaker mother. In the 1970s, he moved to the fashion capital Milan where he launched his first women's collection.
During the 1980s, Versace became a household name in fashion design. His bold choices gained the most acclaim — from holding a dress together with safety pins to his provocative "siren dresses."
The brand has since expanded to include clothing, jewelry, watches, housewares and eyewear. And everything comes with the distinctive Medusa logo.
