In 1952, Gaby Aghion and her business partner Jacques Lenoir were among the first designers to coin the term prêt-à-porter when they created Chloé, the luxury ready-to-wear label. Aghion named Chloé after a friend she believed embodied the carefree attitude of the modern young woman at the time. While the first Chloé boutique didn’t open until 1971, during the 1960s the fashion house became widely acknowledged as a popular brand that symbolised youth and femininity. In 1966 Karl Lagerfeld was appointed head designer and the house counted Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelly and Brigitte Bardot among its clientele. Chloé today is an independent free spirited and inspiring brand with acute sense of beauty and grace. With an atitude courageously modern in its creations and its vision of the world.
